Popinjay archery competition

Re-enactment society Harmaasudet will organize a Popinjay archery competition (Papageienschießen, Tir du Papegay) open for all re-enactor participants. We will shoot at the wooden parrot target at the end of a high pole with blunt arrows according to medieval traditions: crossbows are used in the main competition, but there will also be a series for longbows. Maybe even for handgonnes. Participation is in teams (minimum size of a team: 1 archer) appointed by a guild, brotherhood, club or any kind of group. The competition itself is simple, not too serious and the ceremonies are a big part of it.

We will publish the rules and specifications well in advance so everyone has a chance to practice and prepare themselves for the competition.

Unlike some other countries, crossbows are fully legal in Finland, no permits needed!

Handgonnes need a licence and European Firearms Pass. The organizer will provide a formal invitatioin letter and black powder.
