Popinjay archery competition

Re-enactment society Harmaasudet will organize a Popinjay archery competition (Papageienschießen, Tir du Papegay) open for all re-enactor participants.

We will shoot at the wooden parrot target at the end of a high pole with blunt arrows according to medieval traditions: crossbows are used in the main competition, but there will also be a series for longbows. Participation in main competition is in teams (minimum size of a team: 3 archers) appointed by a guild, brotherhood, club or any kind of group. The longbow series is an individual game. The competition itself is simple, not too serious and the ceremonies are a big part of it.

Unlike some other countries, crossbows are fully legal in Finland, no permits needed!
